Nearly half of what we played at ProgStock 2022 was brand new material from our next album, a prog rock opera to be released in two acts. Act 1 begins with “Fire in a Stranger’s Sky,” which also opened our live set. Onstage, we announced for the first time that the overall two-part epic will be named Utopian Gothic — and that Act 1 is subtitled after our closing song at ProgStock, “Pipe Dreams and Guillotines.” Stay tuned for more details! In the meantime, here was our complete festival setlist. 01.01.2022
Happy New Year from Orpheus Nine! If everyone just looks around here for a while before touching anything, maybe 2022’s bridge troll will be nicer than the last two. 2021 did offer us some bright spots. We reconvened after more than a year apart and played our first show since 2019, the NJ Proghouse Autumn Prog Camp. We also made substantial progress on our forthcoming two-part album, premiering one of Act 1’s songs at Prog Camp alongside “unplugged” versions of Transcendental Circus tunes. 2022 kicks off with a touch of bad news: we recently made the very difficult decision to back out of March’s Fusion festival in the UK. Fortunately, Steve was quite gracious and understanding of our health and safety concerns — and we’re now scheduled to perform at Fusion in spring 2023 instead! We also have the honor of returning to ProgStock this October. Our 2018 experience there was fantastic, so we’re thrilled to introduce more brand new O9 music to such a special audience. Stay well, and we look forward to seeing you all soon! 10.03.2021
Today it was announced onstage at the UCPAC that O9 will return to ProgStock Festival in 2022! We had an amazing time performing at 2018’s event, so it’s truly our honor to be invited back. We’ll introduce plenty of new music from Act 1 of our forthcoming two-part concept album. And on November 6th, we play live for the first time since 2019, at NJ Proghouse’s Autumn Prog Camp! This is a unique outdoor show featuring stripped-down versions of songs from Transcendental Circus. There might even be something brand new just for the occasion.... 12.04.2020
When Bandcamp Friday is the same week as Giving Tuesday, it only makes sense to pay it forward! So today, December 4th, as Bandcamp waives artist fees for the last time in 2020, O9 is taking the opportunity to help our friends at The Bob Moog Foundation. Visit orpheusnine.bandcamp.com before midnight PST, and use discount code MOOG25 to buy our CD, download, and/or T-shirt. You'll save 25% on your purchase, and we’ll donate the proceeds to a great organization. The BMF’s mission is to “ignite creativity at the intersection of music, science, history, and innovation.” They do this through the interactive Moogseum in Asheville (which has been forced to remain closed during the pandemic), Dr. Bob’s Sound School, and the preservation of Dr. Robert Moog’s extensive archives. 09.09.2020
Happy 3rd birthday to Transcendental Circus! We’re having a one-day anniversary sale at Bandcamp, where you can download the full 75-minute digital album for just $3.33 or purchase a CD for $9.99. 07.23.2020
In advance of what we hope can still be our UK stage appearance in March 2021, O9 is happy to join Fusion for its second virtual festival on Saturday, August 29. The event will be streamed live on YouTube and feature 16 great bands/artists. Although it's free of charge, donations are encouraged and will benefit two great causes: Samaritans and Mind. 03.12.2020
We are saddened to announce that, due to global forces beyond our control, our April events in Florida have been cancelled. While we’re disappointed not to perform at The Brass Mug, Prog on the Ranch, and Crimson Sky Music Festival, we appreciate that the hard-working event coordinators made this difficult choice out of concern for everyone’s health and safety. We share their concerns and fully respect their decision. O9 is fortunate not to rely on making music we love as our primary livelihood. However, many of our friends in entertainment do, so our hearts are with them during these uncertain times. We wish nothing but the best to our fellow musical voyagers and hope for a successful return to normality before too long. (Now is the perfect time to support them by buying their music!) We also send our deepest gratitude to those in healthcare who are dealing with this crisis firsthand. Stay tuned for a possible rescheduling of these shows — and for other live appearances along the way. Until then, please be good to each other. We’ll see you back onstage soon! 03.05.2020
One year from today, O9 will hit the UK to play Fusion 4, our first overseas music festival! The stellar lineup for this 3-day event at The Civic already includes Gandalf’s Fist, District 97, Galahad, Pearl Handled Revolver, Stuckfish, and more. Pre-sale “leap of faith” tickets are available now through March 14, with a portion of proceeds to benefit HASAG Asbestos Disease Support. 02.01.2020
It’s our sincere honor to support the Bob Moog Foundation by appearing on Petroglyph Music’s 2020 benefit compilation, available now for pre-order. All proceeds from this mammoth digital album will aid the foundation, whose mission is “to ignite creativity at the intersection of music, science, history, and innovation.” This wonderful work is achieved through Dr. Bob’s SoundSchool for children, through the interactive Moogseum in Asheville, and through ongoing restoration of Bob Moog’s extensive archives. O9’s contribution is “Transcendental Circus,” the epic title suite from our 2017 debut. On our album, we indexed this suite as six separate but continuous tracks (one for each movement). Now, for the first time, “Transcendental Circus” is presented here as a single 21:32 track! We’re delighted to join such a phenomenal roster of progressive and electronic artists. There are already well over 100 songs on the compilation, with many more expected by its official March 1st release date. Show your love by donating what you can. You’ll enjoy several hours of music while helping the BMF grow and thrive. 08.26.2019
September 9th marks the 2-year anniversary of Transcendental Circus! Although our current focus is on new music, Jason is celebrating the milestone with a 15-day musical countdown on Facebook. Today through 9/9, he’ll highlight a different album track each day and offer his personal perspective on its creation. Visit our Facebook band page or Jason’s profile. We’re also having a 2nd birthday sale over at CDBaby, where all CDs are just $9.00 through 9/9. 07.31.2019
O9 is confirmed for a pair of amazing events. On November 9–10, NJProghouse has invited us to play Part 2 of the 20th Anniversary “Hootenanny” at Roxy & Dukes. This will be an incredible weekend with both days packed full of progressive music. Then in April, we’re headed to Tampa to co-headline Crimson Sky Music Festival at the Skipperdome. This all-day concert will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Keep an eye out for more shows coming soon! 12.17.2018
HOLIDAY SALE! 10.11.2018
ProgStock 2018 was a resounding success! Sharing the stage with so many incredible artists was a truly exceptional honor, and the staff/crew who made it all happen — and kept it happening — were extraordinary. But what really made the event most magical was the community of passionate fans and friends. We were embraced by the most welcoming theater audience, who floored us in the best possible way by answering our group bow with a standing ovation. The love we felt from start to finish will never be forgotten. Sonic Perspectives wrote that our “spot-on” performance “open[ed] ProgStock with professionalism and sincerity,” while Proglodytes called our “electrifying and engaging” set the “perfect way to start a prog festival.” THANK YOU! 07.11.2018
O9 is finally on Spotify. While we are most grateful when fans support us by purchasing CDs or downloads, we’re glad that those who prefer to stream music can now enjoy Transcendental Circus as well. (And we still hope that listening will prompt you to buy the album — that’s how we can afford to make more!) 06.30.2018
Last month, Jason sat down for an in-depth conversation with Robert Silverstein of Music Web Express. They discussed band chemistry, the making of Transcendental Circus, the art of songwriting, music in the digital age, and what’s next for O9. Read the full interview. 06.11.2018
Scott Medina of Sonic Perspectives spoke at length with Jason & Mark as part of “The Road to ProgStock 2018” series. Listen to the complete audio. 06.02.2018
